Daily Light Devotional

Every morning my grandmother, Marguerite, could be found at the kitchen table eating toast, drinking tea and doing her devotions. On the table in front of her was always the Bible, the Daily Light devotional, and her journal. She has passed that discipline on to at least two generations of us and as a result every morning, somewhere in the world, there are several people from my family communing with Jesus while reading and praying through the scriptures. The Daily Light devotional is different from other devotionals because it's all scripture excerpts that have been grouped around a common theme. No commentary, just scripture.

I have gotten so much out of reading and praying through these scriptures over the years that I thought I would "Twitterize" the devotional passages in order to make them available in the places where people are spending their time starting with e-mail (AM and PM), Twitter, and Facebook. I did this project to honor God and praise Him for the heritage my grandparents, Arthur and Margurite Gay, have left my family and me.

"Daily Light has been a favorite daily devotional scripture reading for decade after decade, even century after century. It consists of brief groupings of scripture passages which speak to prominent Biblical themes -- two themes (morning and evening) for each day of the year. It appends no commentary, but simply allows scripture to speak for itself." Christian Classics Ethereal Library

"For over a century, Daily Light on the Daily Path has been a favorite devotional book of those who realize the tremendous benefit of reading and praying Scripture. Originally printed in the mid-1800s, Daily Light was born out of the devout faith of Samuel Bagster, a British bookstore owner determined to share his faith with his twelve children. The Bagsters’ daily practice of reading Scripture together, then connecting the day’s verses with other passages, inspired one of the children to compile their devotions for publication. The family discussed and prayed over the selection and arrangement of each verse until they were convinced that no further improvement could be made. After two years of prayer and consideration, the devotions were printed in two volumes for morning and evening reading." Good News Publishers
